Our Ministry with Children

At St. George’s we aim to offer our children more than “Christian instruction”.In fact, our hope is that our children will experience the love of God for each of them and discover ways of responding to it within the context of a safe environment composed of a community of peers and caring adult guidance.

As a methodology we have introduced the Godly Play approach. Godly Play is a hands-on presentation of the Sacred Stories from the Bible, Gospel Parables and Liturgical/Sacramental “Body Language” of the Church. It is a method inspired in the Montessori approach to spiritual development and growth for children and young people. As well as singing Hymns and Songs the youngsters are encouraged in Class to pray and to care for one another. Our children are all English speakers but come from many different countries around the world and this adds greatly to the wealth of cultures and traditions that make up the experience of life at St. George’s.

We also have a crèche for the smaller of our little people. The crèche is organised and run by the parents of our youngest children. A rota is planned in advance; those who wish to volunteer their services for the crèche should contact Louise Fox.

Once a month we hold a Family Service where children and parents worship together. On Family Sundays we do not hold Sunday school although the crèche is available. Please see the Pew sheets for details on the next Family Sunday.

Our Sunday school classes meet at 10:00 am three Sundays a month in the church Hall. Please try to bring your children 10 minutes before as “getting ready” for Godly Play is an important part of the experience.

Our Sunday school year follows the academic year beginning in September and ending in mid-June.During the summer months we continue holding the 10:00 am service for families with children. It is a relaxed and less formal Eucharist open to all.
